Jean Smart Celebrates Third Golden Globe Win, Jokingly Calls Herself ‘Greedy’—George Clooney Offers a Helping Hand

Jean Smart celebrated another milestone at the Golden Globes, claiming her third award for Best Performance by a Female Actor in a Television Series, Musical or Comedy. The 74-year-old Hacks star accepted the honor at the 2026 ceremony at The Beverly Hilton in Beverly Hills on Sunday, Jan. 11.

Escorted to the stage by fellow nominee George Clooney, 64, Smart quipped to the audience, “What can I say? I’m a greedy bitch,” drawing laughter. She added, “I just thank the Golden Globes. I’m absolutely thrilled to be here. I have the best bosses, the best showrunners, the best cast — led by the brilliant Hannah Einbinder — and an incredible support system in my life.”

Smart also praised the show’s writers and cast, noting the journey of Hacks has been “incredible” and concluded with a call to action: “Let’s all do the right thing, and I think everybody in their hearts knows what the right thing is to do.”

On the red carpet before the ceremony, Smart spoke with Entertainment Tonight’s Kevin Frazier about her earlier “rant,” which addressed the current political climate. “Everything’s kind of overshadowed by what’s going on in our country,” she said. “I feel like we’re at a turning point, and it’s going to take a lot of courage and care, but keeping our heads is the hardest part.”

Smart beat out a strong lineup of nominees, including Kristen Bell (Nobody Wants This), Ayo Edebiri (The Bear), Selena Gomez (Only Murders in the Building), Natasha Lyonne (Poker Face), and Jenna Ortega (Wednesday).

On Hacks, Smart portrays Deborah Vance, a comedian hosting a late-night talk show who shares a tense dynamic with her head writer, Ava Daniels (Hannah Einbinder). The show has been renewed for a fifth season.

Other nominees’ roles included:

  • Bell, 45, as Joanne, an agnostic podcaster navigating love with a rabbi in Netflix’s Nobody Wants This.
  • Edebiri, 30, as Sydney, a chef helping Jeremy Allen White’s Carmy elevate a sandwich shop in FX’s The Bear.
  • Gomez, 33, as Mabel, joining neighbors Charles (Steve Martin) and Oliver (Martin Short) to solve crimes in Hulu’s Only Murders in the Building.
  • Lyonne, 46, as Charlie Cale, a truth-detecting traveler solving murders in Peacock’s Poker Face, which will not return for a third season.
  • Ortega as Wednesday, unraveling supernatural mysteries at Nevermore Academy in Netflix’s Wednesday, renewed for a third season.

The 83rd Golden Globe Awards aired live on CBS and streamed on Paramount+ from Los Angeles.
