Kelly Clarkson is opening up about her kids’ well-being, five months after the death of their father and her ex-husband, Brandon Blackstock.
In a recent YouTube Q&A on the official Kelly Clarkson Show channel, the 43-year-old singer responded to a fan who asked her to share one daily activity that brings her joy — and her answer revolved around her two children with Blackstock, daughter River and son Remington “Remy.”
“Snuggle,” Clarkson said. “My kids are 9 and 11 — at that special stage where they can wipe their own behinds, but they still love cuddling.”
She added, “There’s been a lot for our family recently, so I’ve let my kids sleep with me quite a bit. It’s my two dogs, my two kids, and me. It’s a lot,” she joked. “But it’s really special because the conversations during that time are so cute. That’s probably my favorite part of the day.”

Blackstock, 48, passed away from cancer on Aug. 7, 2025. The talent manager, who was also the former stepson of Reba McEntire, had battled melanoma for three years. He is survived by Clarkson, their two children, and two children from a previous marriage, Savannah and Seth. Blackstock also became a grandfather in 2022 when Savannah gave birth to her son, Lake.
A source recently told PEOPLE that Clarkson is “heartbroken” for her children after their dad’s death. “Losing their dad is incredibly painful and confusing,” the insider said. “But Kelly is very grounded. She looks at life realistically and does everything she can to make life as steady and loving as possible for her kids.”

The source added, “Her focus is to be present for her kids. She’s a great mom.”
